FarmVille: Old English Hen spotted in Chicken Coop

This weekend, we brought you the news of a new scam concerning a Union Jack Mystery Egg in FarmVille that has been flooding many of your news feeds. While this was a scam, the Union Jack Mystery Egg will actually be released in the game in the future (apparently under the name of an English Mystery Egg). At the time, we believed that perhaps a Union Jack Chicken would be responsible for laying these eggs, but it turns out that a different chicken is responsible - the Old English Hen.

How do we know this? Simple - as another step in preparation for this week's launch of the English Countryside, Zynga has added the Old English Hen's information to the Chicken Coop. This Old English Hen is the last chicken on the entire list - number 17 to be exact. We'll be able to harvest these Hens and receive 64 coins in return, so while it isn't anymore profitable than other chickens in the game, it's still something to take notice of.

We'll make sure to give you all of the details about this chicken when it officially launches in the game, so keep checking back.

Check out the rest of our English Countryside coverage right here.

Will you purchase an Old English Hen for your Chicken Coop, or would you prefer this chicken really be red and blue, just like its egg?

FarmVille Mystery Game (04/03/2011): Win some Red and Blue Animals for your farm

This week's FarmVille Mystery Game leaves the English Countryside theme behind in favor of a color-centric theme - a Blue and Red theme, to be exact. There are six animals up for grabs in this week's game, with four of them being under the "red" side of the theme, and the remaining two being "blue."

You'll need to pay 20 Farm Cash for each dart, if you'd like a chance at winning any of these animals, which is a bit higher than the "normal" price tag of 16 Farm Cash per dart. If you're willing to pay the higher price, you'll have a chance at one of the following:

Baby Blue Tiger
Blue Arrow Frog
Red Deer
Red Kite
Red Squirrel
Red Wolf Cub

You'll recognize some of these items as those that we've given you sneak peeks of in the past. No matter which animal you'd like to win, remember that this round of the Mystery Game will only be around for seven days, so you'll need to purchase a Dart(s) fast if you want the best chance at receiving all six animals before the game resets.

Which of these animals are you hoping to win in the Mystery Game this week?

FarmVille English Countryside: Sheep Breeding coming to Home farms

It was announced last week on the FarmVille podcast that the most touted feature of FarmVille English Countryside, the Sheep Pen, is coming to FarmVille classic. Today, FarmVille Freak noticed this new loading screen, which further confirms the news. However, how the feature will reappear in the original farm is unknown. Regardless of all this, few have asked, "Why?"

Last time I checked, Sheep Breeding was one of the major draws of the expansion. To make all these features available in the original FarmVille is almost trivializing Zynga's work. To play devil's advocate, do players even want the expansion? It's interesting to think about why Zynga would rerelease this previously exclusive feature into an effectively old game.

Could this be the beginning of a response to the backlash from the dreaded Pause feature? This news brings up plenty of questions as to what this move means for the future of the English Countryside. Most notably, "Who has time to breed Sheep in two pens?"

Have you seen the Sheep Pen appear in your farm yet? What are your thoughts on Zynga rereleasing an exclusive feature?

Zynga wants Mafia Wars designers, coders; creates contest for you

Zynga seems to be taking the "Real World" approach to crowd sourcing its potential hire base for new designers and programmers. The company is looking for new talent to join its Mafia Wars team, and it has created a contest for both designers and programmers to partake in and prove their worth. Design contestants are tasked with creating a Mafia Wars-themed puzzle game and filming the experience creatively. A free-spirited effort, for sure, but programmers must take a multiple choice test to gauge their engineering skills. (Software engineers, now you know where to look.)

However, Zynga is requiring no experience, no resumes--just a display of your creative or technical talents. (At least at first.) This goes to show what Zynga values above all else: skill. That's a comforting approach coming from a multi-billion dollar company, but it's also indicative of what Zynga might be working on. The company is looking for designers to create a board game, and the next Mafia Wars has been said to employ a lot of features seen in Crime City (namely the isometric perspective and world). These two pieces of information fit together rather nicely, no? Surely, this is speculation, but that will be confirmed or denied in due time.

Are you entering Zynga's game design hiring contest? What do you think of the company's approach to finding it's new talent?

FarmVille: Crafting of Love Potions, Wooden Boards, Nails, and Bricks is here

Just today, we told you that there would soon be a way to craft Love Potions in FarmVille, allowing users to have more control over their Sheep and Pig Breeding. Apparently "soon" meant "this evening," as we've seen the release of not only a new Love Potion crafting recipe to the game, but also recipes that will let you craft Wooden Boards, Nails, and Bricks out of Bushels.

Sure, the idea of receiving wooden, or even metal items from crops is a bit outlandish, but if this is the only way Zynga could get it done, then we'll let go of reality. For the Potions, all users will be able to craft them inside the Pub in the English Countryside. A single Potion requires four Field Beans Bushels, 3 Pink Asters Bushels, and 5 English Peas Bushels. That's a heck of a lot of planting and farming for a single Love Potion, but I suppose if you're desperate to breed as many Sheep or Pigs as you can, it's something we'll have to accept.

As for the Wooden Board, Nail, and Brick recipes, these three are split between the three different kinds of general crafting buildings. That is, each type of building only has access to one recipe, so you'll only be able to craft one of the three items unless you shell out the Farm Cash to buy the other crafting buildings as well. The Spa, for instance, has access to crafting the Wooden Board, as you can see below. The Wooden Board takes four Morning Glory Bushels, five Lilac Bushels and three Sunflower Bushels.

If you have a Bakery, you'll be able to create Bricks, which require five Coffee Bushels, three Pepper Bushels, and four Ginger Bushels.

Finally, while we don't have an image of the Nail being crafted inside the Winery, we can tell you that it requires five White Grape Bushels, four Rice Bushels and three Grapes Bushels. We're working on bringing you an image of that recipe as soon as we can, but in the meantime, you can also spend your time stocking up on Love Potions, if you plan on breeding Sheep or Pigs in the near future.

What do you think of these interesting crafting recipes? Sure, it's great to be able to have access to these items, but does the fact that they're made out of crop Bushels bother you? What would you rather use instead?
